The Rural Bankers Association of the Philippines (RBAP), the national association of rural banks, strengthened its commitment to socially and environmentally responsible and responsive business practices by entering into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with water.org, a global non-profit organization working to bring water and sanitation to the marginalized sectors of society around the world. The event was held on August 12, 2022 at the Aquarius-Libra Room of Diamond Hotel, City of Manila.
Founded by Hollywood A-list actor Matt Damon and civil and environmental engineer and lifelong water and sanitation access advocate Gary White, water.org continues to change lives throughout 11 countries –3 each in Southeast Asia, South and Central America, and Africa, and 2 in South Asia. Water.org is among the 2% of charities worldwide that have received the coveted 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, demonstrating its commitment to transparency and accountability.
Atty. Mary Ann Elizabeth M. Tupasi-Saddul, RBAP President, and Ms. Griselda G. Santos, Southeast Asia Regional Director – water.org, signed on behalf of their respective institutions. The MOU enables water.org’s end-users to access any of RBAP’s more than 380 member rural banks (with more than 3,300 branches and access points nationwide, including approximately 800 located in the third to sixth class municipalities) for water and/or sanitation financing. Coming at the 70th anniversary of rural banking this year, this collaboration is expected to enhance rural banks’ social relevance to its clientele throughout the countryside.
